Greetings from the Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights!!

We want to thank all our supporters who make this work possible. The start of this year began in chorus as GLAHR hosted an amazing concert with one of the most influential artists of the “Nueva Cancion” movement in Latin America: Gabino Palomares. Gabino performed to a full house and sang songs for social justice. Community members danced and became immersed in songs of resistance.

After its launch, GLAHR hit the streets with "Soy Georgia," ready to inform community members about the importance of voting. We traveled to South Georgia to participate in College Day and informed the students and community at the South Georgia State College in Douglas, Georgia. At this event, we encourage the youth about the importance of voting and motivating their peers to exercise their right to vote. As the month continued, the Latin American Student Organization (LASO) at Clayton University hosted GLAHR by opening their space for us to inform students about GLAHR’s work and how they can join us at our activities. The Soy Georgia campaign launched a workshop on February 13th and canvassed on the weekend in the cities of Lawrenceville and Duluth, Georgia. If you're interested in joining us for canvassing, please visit the Soy Georgia page, linked below and sign up as a volunteer!

We kickstarted the new year with a flurry of activities. As regularly held, GLAHR's community meetings are open to the public every Monday at 6:30 pm. At the last community meeting, we hosted the Fulton County Elections for a demonstration of the new voting machine system, set to launch throughout the state of Georgia. Further, Radio Migrante launched its new show “Chambeando” to learn about Workers Rights and become a part of the active audience of our shows, every Friday at 12 pm ET. Listen through the TuneIn Radio app, Facebook, and Youtube!

We stood with community members present at the International Union of Painters and Allied Trade’s picket line protest against the wage theft of day laborers. Also sobering, in collaboration with Georgia Detention Watch and other organizations, GLAHR celebrated the life of Pedro Arriago-Santoya, a community member who died in ICE custody at the Stewart Detention Center. We held a vigil in his memory to ensure that our loves are not forgotten. There is an active fundraiser to purchase a proper headstone for Pedro. If you are interested in donating, please contact our office (770) 457-5232 or donate in the bottom below.

In Our Community: Los Guitarristas de GLAHR is a class for community members interested in playing the guitar. We meet every Thursday at 7pm. Come and join us as we venture into the world of music. What's more! If you want to learn some defensive skills, join the Self-Defense circle every Wednesday at 7pm at GLAHR’s office.
