IMPACT of JET FUEL TAX EXEMPTION to CLAYTON COUNTY
Here we go again, House Bill 821 known as an annual tax "clean up" bill passed out of the House Ways & Means Committee on this past Thursday and now goes to the Rules Committee on Monday. Hidden in the bill starting on page 8 is a tax exemption on jet fuel for all airlines at the airports across the state. There is 1 county out of 159 which will be directly impacted the most....Clayton County in the tune of $18 million annually from collection of ESPLOST (for school system) and LOST (for cities and counties). These funds are additional beyond the taxes paid by residents, businesses, and purchases made by others. As a state, a SOLUTION for Clayton County is needed so every year the county is not on pins and needles wondering when legislation will be passed which negatively impacts our residents and businesses. On Friday, Rep. Stovall informed everyone through Facebook Live on the impact and played what took place at the hearing. Warning there are egregious comments made by legislators about Clayton County.
