OpenMP API 6.0!

OpenMP API version 6.0 was released in November just in time for SC24, and several features have been implemented. Check out the 6.0 Spec!

OpenMP at SC24

We had a great show at SC24 in Atlanta, where our big announcement was the release of OpenMP API 6.0. We had a new series of Expert Sessions in our booth, where we invited show attendees to bring their toughest OpenMP API questions, and we had our usual daily drawings for OpenMP books.

If you missed us at SC24, be sure to catch us at SC25 in St. Louis, and check out our videos!

Learn OpenMP at the CSC Summer School in Nuuksio, Finland

This summer, enjoy the midnight sun in the Nordic night and the breathtaking wilderness, while studying parallel programming with OpenMP, MPI, CUDA, and HIP! Transportation from Helsinki to Nuuksio is arranged.

The following topics will be covered:
  • Programming at supercomputer scale using message-passing interface (MPI)
  • Using threading (OpenMP) for programming CPU nodes
  • Programming GPUs with HIP/CUDA and OpenMP
  • Hybrid parallel programming combining MPI with OpenMP and HIP/CUDA (multi-GPU programming)
  • Principles of efficient parallel input/output in supercomputers
  • Applying learned concepts in HPC and AI applications
Dates: Leave Helsinki June 24, 2025 and return on July 3.

Berkeley Lab and NERSC hosted successful OpenMP ARB Language Committee Face to Face Meeting

Berkeley Lab and NERSC hosted the OpenMP ARB Language Committee for a productive face-to-face meeting, working toward the future of the portability of the OpenMP API beyond the recent release of OpenMP 6.0. The committee put their heads together to discuss a range of topics in the areas of accelerators, C/C++, Fortran, tasking, examples, and more. It was a great chance to connect, innovate, and plan!

Here's the team working to bring you the OpenMP API. If your organization has an interest to participate, consider becoming a member!
