The 23rd Annual Texas Butterfly Festival is just 3 weeks away!
The rains continue to be good, the Valley is LUSH and GREEN, and an abundance of snouts, sulphurs and Queens are heralding another fantastic fall filled with flutterbys.
For those who have attended the festival before, you know the drill. Packet pick up is at the Hampton Inn (host hotel) from 1 - 6 pm, Saturday, Nov. 3, followed by the Welcome Reception and "reading of the rules."
First-timers, please do not treat the "welcome" as optional. It's a good place to start making friends for carpooling (sometimes better than waiting for our courtesy shuttle) and get all your questions answered--and there will be food.
As of right now, we have no changes to the schedule or trips, but our guides will do pre-trip scouting the week before the festival, with any changes announced at the welcome reception on Saturday night.
At the welcome reception you will receive instructions for changing trips (should you wish to do that), along with much more.
The festival website has plenty of good information about weather, packing, gear and more, so explore it. And although it is usually HOT, pack a sweater and/or windbreaker just in case! Cold fronts do sometimes blow through. And no matter how hardcore a naturalist you may be, we strongly recommend closed-toe shoes because fire ants, cactus, thorns, burrs, chiggers, ground-nesting bees...
We are excited for the festival and look forward to receiving each and every one of you! Marianna, Max, Luciano, Stephanie, Marcelo, Adriana, Nestor, Fortunato and Patti
