Hi friend,

I joined The 19th* to bring my full, lived experience to my journalism. I made it my mission to use that journalism to empower women and marginalized folks who have not felt truly seen or heard in our democracy. And this year, the centennial of suffrage and 55 years after the Voting Rights Act, we saw record numbers of women harness their power at the ballot box as the deciders of this election.

We will remember 2020 as the year when so many of us — including our newsroom — made history together. Almost four months ago, The 19th became the country’s first and only newsroom covering the intersection of gender, politics and policy. And we have gone on to produce empowering and award-winning journalism, including my Portraits of a Pandemic series.

We know equal representation and suffrage remain a work in progress. As this election year comes to a close, another thing remains certain: The 19th will continue to capture this ongoing American story. We will continue to confront the systemic inequalities that the pandemic has exposed. We will continue to cover the trailblazers, including Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and the record number of women of color headed to Congress.

And on this Giving Tuesday, I hope you’ll help us continue this work by becoming a sustaining member of The 19th.

The 19th empowers and so can you. Your recurring gift (or a gift of any amount) helps ensure we have the resources we need to invest in quality journalism. Can you help us reach our goal of 10,000 members by the end of the year?
YES, I'LL DONATE NOW!
If you’re unable to donate today, we totally understand and hope you’ll consider joining our efforts by starting your very own 19th fundraiser. It’s totally free and will go a long way toward helping us meet our #GivingNewsDay goal.

With gratitude,
