I’m Emily Ramshaw, and I am thrilled to welcome you to The 19th, the brand-new newsroom we’re launching today to elevate the voices of historically underserved women in American media.
As co-founder and CEO, I’d like to tell you a bit more about why The 19th is a nonprofit — and why members are so critical to our future.
From Day One, our journalism will be free to consume and free to republish. As we build a robust community across our own platforms, we’re also making it our mission to serve women where they already are, bringing them the information and resources they need to be equal participants in our democracy.
Our stories will be fact-based, deeply reported and truly representative, starting with a newsroom that reflects, listens to and empathizes with the nation’s women.
And we’re working to change the face of the news industry by giving women journalists the benefits, opportunity and flexibility they need to advance to the highest levels of the field.
The 19th is a chance to engage women who want to be more deeply informed on matters of politics and public policy, providing them a safe place to participate in meaningful conversations.
And the stakes for those conversations couldn’t be higher, in a moment where women are disproportionately affected by a global pandemic, a modern-day civil rights movement and an enormously consequential election.
