WHAT IS WATER SECURITY

Water drives all aspects of life, from basic health and hygiene to industries like agriculture, energy and transportation. But what do we mean when we say “water security” – and how is SWP working to improve it?

When civilizations develop ways to harness, preserve and allocate water, they thrive. When they do not, societies are threatened. The Sustainable Water Partnership (SWP) looks at water through the lens of water security.

This month SWP launched its website, a resource to foster global collaboration on water security.

The Sustainable Water Partnership (SWP) will host a showcase at World Water Week (August 27-September 1) in Stockholm, Sweden on Thursday, August 31 at 4 p.m. The showcase will explore how to raise all decisionmakers’ awareness of water security risks and engage local and regional leaders in water management planning efforts.
