Grab your camera and get outside! It’s time to start burning through those SD cards in a quest for fantastic photos. Your best butterfly photo could win $500 in the North American Butterfly Photo Contest, which will open for submissions on September 1.
Your images from across America support our mission by documenting the diversity of species in our landscape and exposing millions to the fascinating world of butterflies, their features and behaviors. Likewise, your participation in our contest contributes to our mission of GROWING CONNECTIONS, by capturing public attention and sharing the beauty of wild, free-flying butterflies with all. In this way, we endeavor to help people care so they will conserve.

Nursery Needs
Almost two years ago, we added a third growing area in anticipation of our ever-growing demand for native host and nectar plants. Although the structure was donated, we had no resources to construct growing tables; so, we used pallets and other found materials to get started. Unfortunately, these temporary tables have not held up very well.
Now, we’re asking for your assistance to acquire the cinderblock, wire mesh and treated posts necessary to construct durable growing tables, similar to those in our two established nursery spaces. The materials for each 8’ table cost $75, and Ricky will build them well.
We have 24 TABLES available for “adoption” for a donation of $75 each. In return, we will recognize your contribution with a sign similar to the one shown above. Just click here, select BUILD A TABLE, and enter your special message at the bottom of the form.
As always, it is your generous gifts that keep us growing!
Closed Sundays
In case you missed it, the National Butterfly Center will be CLOSED SUNDAYS, June 4 – August 6, 2017, for intensive maintenance. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, however, our grounds crew has some heavy-duty work to do that tends to disturb visitors or pose a potential safety hazard, ahead of this fall.
On these days, the grounds may be accessed by members and facility renters, by special arrangement, only. To secure entry or reserve the NBC for a special event, please call 956-583-5400, during our 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. regular business hours, Monday – Friday.
