Digital Release!

Send out your invitations for your first Edible Games event with friends.
The digital version of the Edible Games Cookbook is available now for backers!

I can't wait to see the photos that backers share of their creations using #edibleGames!

Digital Release Process

Getting the digital version release was harder & more time consuming than expected. Firstly there was trying to get it in popular eBook file formats. Next was working out how backers would be able to get the file onto devices. And finally developing the online resources & ingredients list tool explained below.
The main digital version is a PDF with clickable page number links inside. The PDF version is compatible with Kindle devices. There is also a ePub version for iBooks and other eBook readers. There is also a 3D printable oven mitt file so you can create your own Knight of the Oven Mitt insignia.
If you backed the Edible Games Cookbook Kickstarter at least at the digital edition level, check for emails from me and BackerKit about how to download the book and other rewards.

Online Resources & Ingredients List Tool

Along with the digital release is a wealth of other work. The online resources page has downloads for games that need them. There's also the amazing Ingredients List Tool - choose which game you want to make, specify number of players include any dietary restrictions, and make choices about which recipes you want to make or buy from the supermarket and the generator creates a full list of all the ingredients you need.

Physical Items Getting Manufactured

I've been working hard on getting all the Gourmand Edition components and the pins made.
Oven mitt. This first sample on the left wasn't unusable as an oven mitt - it didn't keep out the heat! So I had to upgrade and get thicker material (on the right). However, that meant that we couldn't do the waffle stitching on the front combined with the embroidery. Seems like a small price to pay for a functional oven mitt.
Bronze oven mitt pin. This was a bonus for all physical edition backers because we met our social media stretch goal. This beauty will get manufactured in the US.
Veggie cutters. These are the final shapes! The cookie cutters are also almost finished as well.
Chocolate mould. This was a fun part where I worked with a 3D artist to design these chocolates. Each chocolate is unique in shape and little marks on the side. This will make it easier to keep track of the contents of the chocolates, while they all look similar on the outside.

This mould has been my main hold up during manufacturing. It's quite a complicated item and requires a specialised factory to create it. I'm also asking for a small quantity (500). Getting the file in a format the factory can deal with has been the hardest manufacturing challenge to date.

My next steps

Mostly it's waiting for everything to get manufactured & check samples. Once that happens, it all moves to a single warehouse in China and then gets split to go to different fulfillment warehouses around the world. From those warehouses it gets sent directly to backers. It's a long process (even longer than I expected), but everything is in motion and will eventually get to backers.
I got a new sample of the physical cookbook with pretty end papers, an index, and acknowledgments section! This is the final sample and will be what backers will get in the mail.

Upcoming Events

None right now. If you'd like to hear me talking at GDC, here's my talk about designing tabletop games and here's my talk where I show some of the food experiments I did.
