United States West Coast Dialog: Oregon

Oregon’s Webinar will be hosted by Willamette University, a liberal arts college in Salem, OR. The event will be moderated by Liandra Chapman, a senior economics student at Willamette. The webinar will host three panelists and start at 6PM PST on April 7th.

South America Dialog: Colombia

Colombia’s webinar is hosted by the National University of Colombia. One of the panelists, Santiago Ortega Arango, obtained degrees in civil engineering and hydraulic resources engineering.

United States Midwest Dialog: South Dakota

The webinar for the state of South Dakota is hosted by the University of South Dakota. One of the key speakers is Henry Red Cloud.

Henry Red Cloud

  • Founder of Lakota Solar Enterprises, which is based on the Pine Ridge Reservation

  • LSE works to install solar heating systems in Native American households

  • Manages the Red Cloud Renewable Energy Center, where tribal members can receive training on renewable energy and sustainable building practices

Europe Dialog: United Kingdom (UK)

The United Kingdom’s (UK) webinar will be hosted by Birkbeck University of London. One of the panelists is Dr. Richard Hamblyn, who attended and graduated from the University.

Hamblyn is an environmental writer and historian whose works include:

  • The Invention of Clouds (2002)

  • Terra: Tales of the Earth (2009)

  • The Art of Science: a Natural History of Ideas (2011)

  • Clouds: Nature and Culture (2017) and companion volume, The Sea: Nature and Culture (2021)

  • Illustrated books written with the UK Met Office, edited The Storm (1704), and Penguin Classics (2005)

Asia Dialog: India

India’s Webinar is hosted by the Global Centre for Environment and Energy by Ahmedabad University in Gujarat. The lead panelist of the event will be Prof. Minal Pathak.

Minal Pathak

  • She is environmental scientist working with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

  • A faculty member at the Ahmedabad University, where she helps coordinate the Global Centre for Environment and Energy.

She says, “This is the decade of decision. The window is narrow and it’s closing very rapidly. I think that if we don’t take action in these five to six years, we might just miss the bus. I don’t even want to think about that scenario.”
